Entrants in the 50 mile race must have completed one of the Wapack trail races (18 or 21 miles), a trail marathon or an ultra event. Those who do not have a qualifying race, but have equivalent running or hiking experience (e.g., Escarpment or an Appalachian trail thru-hike J) will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Those using equivalent experience to qualify should email the race director.
The 50 mile race runs the length of the Wapack trail from south to north, then returning south. At this point, the runners have gone 43 miles. There is then a seven mile out-and-back on the trail, to fill out the 50 mile distance. The southern terminus is at the Mt. Watatic trailhead on Rt 119 in Ashburnham, MA. The northern terminus is on Mountain Road in Greenfield, NH.
While there is not formally a 43 mile event, runners who choose to stop at that distance will be listed as 43 mile finishers and will receive a finishers award. Ultra results (50 mile and 43 mile finishers) will be reported to Ultrarunning Magazine.
The race starts at the Mt. Watatic trailhead on Rt 119 in Ashburnham, MA.
Parking: Park along Rt 119. Make sure that all wheels of the vehicle are completely off of the road. Police may tow cars on the pavement. Rt 119 is a busy, high speed road. Please take care.
